Oil and gas

Ever since the start of the Norwegian oil adventure, Crane Norway Group has played an important role in the construction and maintenance work in the oil and gas industry in Norway and Sweden.

Over the years, we have gained broad experience from both onshore petroleum facilities and offshore installations, and there is no doubt that the oil and gas industry is an important market area for the group.

Refineries

Continuous maintenance and service of refineries for oil companies constitutes a significant portion of Crane Norway Group’s business. Construction projects for Norwegian and international oil and refinery operators are also one of the group’s priority areas and we have more than 20 years of experience in the field.

Our cranes and personnel are in action every day at refineries in Hammerfest, Aukra, Mongstad and Kollsnes to name a few. In addition, the group is a supplier for major construction and maintenance projects and is responsible for supplying comprehensive services within cranes, heavy lifting, transport and engineering.

Offshore

In addition to providing transport and lifting services deliveries to onshore petroleum facilities, the offshore oil industry is an important customer for the company. Through our subsidiary Nordic Crane Vest AS, Crane Norway Group has extensive experience with mobile cranes on offshore installations on the Norwegian continental shelf. The group also performs planning and engineering services for offshore work.

The oil and gas industry sets high standards for safety. Therefore, we always make sure that our equipment is certified and that our staff have the appropriate qualifications and training.

Industry

We perform all kinds of services for industrial customers. We lift heavy structures with one or more cranes as needed, and we can transport them from A to B. We plan jobs together with our customers and can take responsibility for both the planning and execution of assignments.

Our staff possess extensive local knowledge and have excellent relationships with our many customers in the industrial sector. We provide services to local partners across the country.

Good service is our trademark.

Wind

The wind power industry is an important customer and user of Crane Norway Group’s heavy-duty, specialised equipment. The construction of large windmill parks requires careful planning of logistics, transport and lifting operations to achieve an efficient and cost-saving concept for the customer.

Crane Norway Group has the machinery, equipment and personnel to handle critical transport and lifting operations for the wind power industry.

Heavylift

Crane Norway Group has extensive experience in planning and executing lifting operations.

Our current fleet includes cranes with lifting capacities of up to 750 tonnes, which can handle most of the lifting operations carried out in the Nordic countries. Otherwise, there is no limit to the jobs we can perform.

Heavy lifts are normally lifting operations that are planned well in advance, and generally involve a certain amount of engineering work. Thorough planning ensures that the lifts can be performed quickly and efficiently, without unforeseen situations, which ensures predictability for our customers

Engineering

Engineering is an important part of Crane Norway Group’s business and adds a new dimension to transport and lifting operations.

Our organisation consists of highly qualified engineers with solid theoretical knowledge and practical experience. In cooperation with highly qualified skilled workers, we have the competence necessary to carry out even the most demanding transport and lifting jobs.

With advanced 3D animation tools, we can plan complex lifting operations with millimetre accuracy and ensure predictability and increased safety for all our operations. In addition to planning operations, our engineers possesses solid engineering expertise and are familiar with all relevant regulations and standards, enabling us to provide complete engineering services for all types of transport and lifting assignments.

Detailed planning of transport and lifting operations

Market developments, as well as strict safety and quality requirements, mean that more and more customers have a need for detailed planning, with written procedures and documentation, in advance of operations. When our engineers perform detailed planning of a lifting operation using a 3D computer simulation, it means in practice that they have reviewed and quality assured the entire lifting operation in advance. During this review, we can easily verify the feasibility of the operation in all phases. We have the tools to plan exactly where the crane should be positioned, to check the necessary lifting height and clearance needed to clear obstructions, and to document crane capacity throughout all phases. In addition, in advance of every operation, our operators always perform an additional risk assessment, which comes on top of the mandatory risk assessment. This type of planning contributes to increased safety and more efficient execution of operations.

Installation feasibility studies

As a supplier of transport and lifting services, we have traditionally been involved in the final phase of the project, once structures have been prefabricated and are ready for installation. In this phase of the project, all operating parameters have already been set well in advance and we are often forced to use less cost-effective solutions and equipment to perform the installation. Therefore, we offer our clients consulting services, so that they can benefit from our expertise and thus make the job easier.

The scope of an installation feasibility study will vary according to customer needs and includes advisory services in terms of an evaluation of alternative installation solutions. During this phase, various alternative installation methods are evaluated against each other based on criteria such as feasibility, execution time, overall cost, risk, uncertainty, etc. All of this enables our customers to make an informed decision on the most cost-effective design and the safest way to execute their project. In addition, our customers often receive useful input concerning design changes that can facilitate new and more efficient installation methods.

Design and engineering

Our engineers have extensive experience in drawing, engineering and documentation for all types of transport and lifting equipment. In addition to having the expertise to develop and design equipment for our own operations, we offer our customers solutions for complete custom-designed transport and lifting equipment, design and engineering of strapping and rigging systems and so on.

Examples of typical design and engineering assignments:

  • Delivery of specially designed spreaders with minimum hook height for transformers
  • Delivery of specially designed section-based lifting beams
  • Drawing and engineering of custom-designed strapping systems
  • Delivery of engineering documentation for existing equipment or lifting points
  • Design, engineering and delivery of load distribution plates for cranes
  • Design, engineering and delivery of transport A-frames for concrete elements

Specialist expertise

Crane Norway Group has provided services to the foundation and construction industry for decades and it is still one of our major business segments.

Our cranes and personnel are always out on large and small foundation jobs across the country, working both on barges and on land.
We can offer a wide range tracked heavy-duty machines with capacities of 60 tonnes and more. Our machines are specially designed for dynamic operations and have heavy-duty motors, winches and belts.
For specialised construction activities, we have developed good practices and procedures based on years of experience. This allows us to uncover risks and helps us to work both safely and efficiently.

Grabbing/Dredging

With our wide range of hydraulic and wire-mechanical grabbers, we are prepared to dig out all kinds of earth, both on land and at sea. With grabber suspended from a crane, depth is no challenge and we can perform digging operations with a great reach.

Soil compaction

To improve soil settlement, the fill and the underlying soil can be compacted with drop weights before construction. Soil compaction reduces the pore volume and increases soil settlement resistance. Soil compaction is a good alternative to other foundations for new buildings and allows foundations to be set directly on the fill.
From experience, we know that fill will settle around 5 to 10% during compaction, depending on the energy used and fill qualities.
To achieve the desired depth effect, calculations must be made to find the correct amount of energy, which depends on the plumb weight and drop height.
With our machines, we are ready to take on soil compaction assignments with weights of 25 tonnes from heights of 20 metres.

Foundations

In many cases, mobile cranes are useful for setting steel cores, sheet piles and concrete piles. We offer broad knowledge and experience from such jobs and have equipment specifically designed for harsh working conditions.
